Kupwara, May 30 (KNO): People in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday chose a unique method of exposing the failure of authorities to repair a road in the town. According to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), residents planted paddy saplings as a mark of protest on the Regipora-Degree college road to highlight its poor condition. Meanwhile, the residents said that the entire road stretch has not been repaired since long with the result the potholes have widened, and transporters are finding it hard to ply vehicles on this road stretch. Muhammad Ashraf, a shopkeeper said that they had made numerous representations to the concerned authorities but no one bothered to pay heed to their pleas. He said that it was even difficult for pedestrians to walk on the road full of potholes and mud patches. The residents as well as shopkeepers appealed to the district administration to repair and macadamize the road so that they can heave a sigh of relief. The images (planted paddy saplings on road) are being widely circulated on social media with people lauding the initiative, hitting out at the authorities for their lackadaisical approach towards the people's concerns. Meanwhile, the officials said that the work on the said road will start very soon as the administration has put it on top priority—(KNO)
